Will Patterson, a former Lawrence Central assistant, is returning as the Bears’ new football coach.
Patterson, who led Tech to a 6-14 record the past two seasons, was an assistant for Lawrence Central from 2013 to ’18, when he served as junior varsity coach and varsity assistant, as well as the head coach for track and field.
“We are thrilled to bring coach Patterson back home to lead the Lawrence Central football program,” athletic director Ryan Banas said. “Coach Patterson is a tireless worker, someone who emphasizes family, community and hard work. He will hit the ground running.”
Patterson led Tech to a 5-5 record last season and was named City Coach of the Year. He also served as a special education teacher at Tech.
Patterson, a 2006 Lawrence North graduate, played football at Indiana from 2006-09 and was team captain for two years. He has a degree in kinesiology from IU and is completing his master’s degree from Purdue-Northwest.
Lawrence Central is coming off a 2-8 season. John Rodenberg, who was 6-15 in two seasons at Lawrence Central, was hired at Roncalli. Patterson will be the Bears’ fourth coach since Lawrence Central won a state championship in 2012 under current Warren Central coach Jayson West.
