West Florida women’s tennis coach Derrick Racine and standout player Berta Bonardi capped a decorated 10 years in Thursday’s Gulf South Conference All-Decade team release.
Racine was named GSC Coach of the Decade while Bonardi earned GSC Player of the Decade, capping a sweep of the awards by UWF on the men’s and women’s tennis teams.
Under Racine, UWF won nine straight GSC championships from 2011 to 2019, and Racine won GSC Coach of the Year eight times over that span.
Bonardi was the 2019 GSC Player of the Year and is a three-time ITA All-American with the Argos. Bonardi won the 2018 and 2019 ITA National Championship in singles and finished the 2019 spring as the top-ranked player in the country.
The Argos dominated the GSC All-Decade team overall, placing 12 players on first, second and honorable mention teams in addition to Bonardi and Racine’s awards. West Alabama’s three representatives were the next most in the conference.
