Tri-West High School football coach Tyler Bruce is the subject of an investigation, the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday.
Capt. Amanda Goings, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Department, said they had received an anonymous tip on May 12 and, since then, “have been working alongside our partners at the Department of Child Services and the Northwest Hendricks School Corporation to determine the facts in the case.”
Goings said no determination has been made yet about whether a crime has occurred, and she had no other specifics to release at this time about the situation.
However she did say the Sheriff’s Department was “aware of the suspension of Tyler Bruce.”
Michael Springer, the superintendent for the North West Hendricks School Corp., provided the following statement late Friday night:
“On May 22nd, our last student attendance day, our office was first made aware of a DCS report involving Mr. Bruce. On May 28th, following the Memorial Day Weekend, Mr. Bruce was placed on administrative leave in order to conduct an internal investigation. We have worked and we will continue to work collaboratively with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Child Services. We are unable to comment on the specifics of our internal investigation at this time.”
Bruce, a 2007 graduate of Tri-West, has coached the Bruins the past two seasons. He was the offensive coordinator in 2016 before replacing former coach Chris Coll, who was hired at Franklin. Bruce was the quarterback of the 2004 Class 2A state championship team. He played at Western Kentucky.
Neither Springer or Tri-West athletic director Nathan Begle would comment on Bruce’s position when reached on Friday.
