Syracuse men's basketball will open Preseason NIT against Oklahoma State (report) –

The Syracuse men’s basketball team will open the Preseason NIT against Oklahoma State, according to a report by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. Rothstein cited anonymous sources.

The other two teams involved in the Preseason NIT are Penn State and Mississippi.

The four teams competing in the event had been announced previously but the opening matchups had not been. The winners and losers of the first two games will meet in the next two.

The games will be played at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Nov. 27 and Nov. 29.

Oklahoma State went just 12-20 last year, the program’s second under head coach Mike Boynton. It went 5-13 in the Big XII.

The Cowboys do return their top three scorers from that team, all three who averaged double-digits. Cameron McGriff led the way at 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. McGriff was named on of writer Andy Katz’s 20 best candidates to win the Karl Malone Award, which honors the country’s top power forward.

For fans of nostalgia, the Oklahoma State roster includes Trey Reeves, the son of Bryant “Big Country” Reeves. Trey Reeves is a 6-foot-4 forward. He played just four games last year.
