MMA fighter Jorge Masvidal, owner of fastest knockout in UFC, sits courtside for Syracuse-Iowa – syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — Mixed-martial arts fighter Jorge Masvidal, the owner of the fastest knockout in UFC history, became the latest celebrity to take in the Syracuse basketball team this season.

Masvidal sat next to local businessman Adam Weitsman in his courtside seats to the left of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim.

Masvidal fought in the headline bout in UFC 244 last month, beating veteran Nate Diaz in a fight for a celebratory BMF (Baddest You Know The Rest) belt. The fight was stopped after three rounds. Since that fight, rumors have circulated that Masvidal could eventually fight Conor McGregor, the biggest name in MMA.

In July, Masvidal generated a substantial amount of attention for knocking out Ben Askren in five seconds at UFC 239. Masvidal hit Askren with a flying knee to open their fight.

Spotting which big-name might attend has become a fun tradition in the Carrier Dome, with Carmelo Anthony, Dion Waiters and Jeremy Piven already attending games this year. Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and wrestlers Nikki and Brie Bella both attended and sat courtside during previous seasons.
