Lewis Hamilton set to leave Formula One for new challenge? Electric cars, fashion or music | Daily Star – Daily Star

The Brit remains as dominant as ever as he cruised to victory at the Chinese Grand Prix.

It was the 75th career victory for Hamilton and while he remains as dedicated as ever, he also has other ambitions.

His contract with Mercedes comes to an end in 2020 and one option is a switch to Formula E.

The 34-year-old has reportedly spoken with former-teammate and DTM champion Gary Paffett about moving into the all-electric series.

Paffett races for Mercedes backed HWA in FE.

He told The Sun: “I was chatting to him (Lewis) about it and he was talking to me about the fact I have gone from DTM to Formula E at this stage of my career.

“I was chatting to him about Formula E, he is so focused on F1 which I was too in DTM for so many years.

“But I think he sees Formula E as an option for the future. All the drivers here have come from professional motorsport and other formulas.”

Hamilton’s has many interests which he could also look to explore more fully if he said goodbye to the track.

Skydiving is his latest hobby while fashion and music already occupy a lot of his time.

Former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone pointed to how Hamilton shares the sport with other interests.

He told The Daily Telegraph: “Lewis is super and there is no doubt about that.

FASHION: Hamilton has many interests (Pic: GETTY)

“Alongside his fashion business it is almost as if he now treats Formula One as a hobby.

“He is the only real character we have got in the sport, it is a pity there are not two or three drivers like him.”

Hamilton has said himself he would look at other options away from Formula One and used Fernando Alonso as an example.

He said: “Being that I have been racing since I was eight years old, I am going to have massive withdrawal symptoms, like every driver has when they stop racing, when Formula One stops for me.

“There are other things to do. I guess there are other series I could do. Fernando Alonso is doing Indycar.”
