Max Verstappen has admitted he will not watch the new documentary detailing the behind-the-scenes incidents from the 2018 Formula 1 season because he can’t control how his is portrayed in it.
The new Netflix documentary, ‘F1: Drive to Survive” show plenty of never-seen-before footage from last season, with Red Bull and their two drivers taking up the majority of airtime with the various incidents they were involved in, from Verstappen crashing with teammate Daniel Ricciardo in Azerbaijan, to the Australian’s departure and their split with Renault.
The show repeatedly makes reference to the relationship between Verstappen and Ricciardo and how the now Renault driver continually seems to be falling more and more into his younger teammate’s shadow.

HOW AN OFF-SEASON OF CHANGE COULD HERALD IN A NEW MINI-ERA
While Ricciardo is shown with his family throughout as he made his shocking decision to leave Red Bull, Verstappen is mainly shown during an episode about the Monaco Grand Prix, where the two drivers had vastly different weekends.
The Dutchman went into the weekend as one of the favourites to win, only to crash his car in practice and miss the subsequent qualifying – starting at the back of the grid as a result.
Ricciardo, on the other hand, qualified on pole and went on to win.
During the celebrations, Verstappen looks downcast, claiming the win should have been his, thus appearing to play the villain in comparison to Ricciardo’s white knight portrayal.
However, Verstappen insisted that any driver who would have been happy in his shoes would not have been a true competitor and that the way he comes across is a reason why is not a fan of Netflix’s latest must-watch show.

“Well that’s why I don’t like the documentary,” he exclusively told FoxSports.com.au. “Because you can’t control what is broadcast.
“I guess it’s quite normal for a driver to be unhappy if you’re in a situation like that, otherwise you should stay home.
“Honestly, I don’t really like to look back at last year – it’s happened.
“I guess that’s why I also don’t to watch the documentary because I’m not interested in what happened last year, I just like looking ahead because there are a lot of great opportunities which we can take on.”
