El Dorado tennis player Emma Thomas was selected as a member of the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch International Touring Team. The senior will be one of 15 team members who will train at a camp at the ranch in New Braunfels, Texas from June 21 to July 16.

After the training, the team will fly to England and attend Wimbledon before competing in tennis tournaments in Liverpool, London and Oban, Scotland.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity,” Thomas said. “I have been going to this camp ever since as I was in third grade and I have always wanted to be apart of the team one day. It is an incredible honor.”

Thomas advanced to the 5A State Tennis Tournament in singles as a senior. She finished third in singles at the conference tournament.

“I’m really proud of her,” said El Dorado tennis coach Stephanie Thomas. “I think it’s an awesome opportunity to be able to travel overseas and also be able to play. It will be a great experience to see Wimbledon. She’s very lucky.”

Emma Thomas was selected from the 100 people in the camp who signed up. The selections were based on work ethic, overall attitude and playing ability.
