Daniel Suarez hits reset on NASCAR career with SHR ride
Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated.
Daniel Suarez has a second chance to prove he belongs at NASCAR’s top level. The only non-American driver in the Cup Series has landed a job at Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2019 season. Suarez spent the last two seasons driving for Joe Gibbs in the Cup Series but he lost that job in November when Gibbs decided Suarez was expendable.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Daniel Suarez has moved to Stewart-Haas Racing for 2019 for a reset on his NASCAR career.
Suarez drove for Joe Gibbs Racing but became expendable when 2017 NASCAR champion Martin Truex Jr. needed a job. Gibbs grabbed Truex and that put Suarez, a Mexican who developed through NASCAR’s diversity program, out of a ride.
SHR had a seat because Kurt Busch and the organization parted ways, and Suarez found an ideal landing spot. SHR drivers won 12 races last year and advanced the team’s entire four-car lineup into the round of eight in last year’s playoffs.
Suarez won the Xfinity Series title for JGR in 2016 and was hastily moved to the Cup Series the next season when Carl Edwards abruptly retired. He had 21 top-10 finishes in 72 Cup races.
Suarez will drive the No. 41 Ford with sponsorship from Haas Automation and Arris.
